Begin with a missing answer.
Suppose you are comparing two desk surfaces. One supplier supplies a finish-specific care sheet; the other calls its surface “durable” without explaining the term. This invented comparison does not establish which product is better. It identifies a missing answer that a photograph cannot supply.
The worksheet below uses two parallel records, A and B. Keep the product or sample reference with each one so that a later care sheet cannot accidentally be attributed to a different finish. “Wood” or “glass” alone is rarely a precise product reference.
Separate three kinds of statement.
- Observed: the sample looks darker beside the existing desk than in the supplier photograph.
- Documented: the care sheet for this exact reference lists a particular cleaning method.
- Unconfirmed: you do not yet know how a damaged edge would be addressed.
Write those statements in different fields rather than merging them into “good quality.” A preference about texture is yours to record. A claim about safety, performance, environmental benefit or warranty coverage needs the relevant evidence and context; the worksheet does not certify it.
Ask a question a supplier can answer.
“Will it last?” is broad. “Does this care document apply to the finish on sample A?” is more precise. So is “Who should I contact about repair options for this product?” Keep the response’s source reference so you can distinguish a published document from a verbal impression.
Do not run destructive stain, heat, solvent or impact experiments based on this guide. Ask what use and sample handling the maker permits. A small sample and a finished object may also differ in ways the sample does not show.
Use the comparison without inventing a winner.
Complete the final question field after reading both records. You might need one more document rather than a purchase decision. The tool deliberately has no star rating, weighted score or automatic recommendation; a missing answer stays missing.
